About Us

What We Believe

  • The Bible is God’s Holy Word, divinely inspired without error and is the sole authority for life and faith.
  • There is only one true and living God who is Creator of all things and reveals Himself to us as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
  • God the Father reigns with sovereign wisdom, justice and unfailing love over all creation and history.
  • Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin.
  • The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God who inspired the writing of the Scripture and enables people to understand it.
  • God created man in His own image, both male and female.  God and man had perfect fellowship until Satan tempted man, and man chose to disobey and rebel against God.
  • Man is securely and eternally saved by God’s grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • The church is all believers who have been saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, gathering together locally as bodies of baptized believers under the lordship of Jesus Christ.
  • Marriage is the first institution God created and ordained in human society.  It is God’s plan for marriage to be a holy union of one man and one woman in an exclusive life-long covenant love relationship.

Our History

After finishing Bible College in the spring of 1990, Pastor Michael J. Golden was led of the Lord to return to the Harrisburg area to plant a church.  In the late summer of that year, he began meeting with a small group of believers in various homes in the city, and Cornerstone Baptist held its first service on September 23, 1990.  The church held that first service in the Seventh Day Adventist Church on 13th and Herr Streets where it met for almost four years.  During that time many visitors came, and some were saved through the witnessing outreach of the church, despite having a pastor who worked a full time secular job.  The church grew to an average weekly attendance of about forty at that location.

In July of 1994, Cornerstone moved to a small Methodist chapel located on the corner of 15th and Derry Streets in Harrisburg.  While at that facility a choir was formed and the evangelism continued.  The congregation met at this location for about eighteen months and grew to an average of over sixty attendees each week.

Cornerstone moved to its current location in 1996 and were able to purchase it. Our God has shown again and again that He is truly able to do “exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think.”  By His grace, we will do all we can to reach as many people as possible in our community and around the world with the gospel of Christ.

Plan Of Salvation

We are sinners.

“For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23

According to that verse, I am a sinner. According to that verse every member of our church is a sinner. And according to that verse, you too are a sinner.

Sin is breaking God’s law. It is doing something God said not to do or not doing something God said to do.

The penalty for sin is death.

“The wages of sin is death…” (Romans 6:23a)

Some people think that if they do more good than bad they will go to Heaven. But the Bible does not say that the wages of sin is to be good. The Bible says that the wages of sin is death. Others believe that they will go to Heaven because they were baptized. But the Bible doesn’t say that the wages of sin is baptism. The Bible says that the wages of sin is death.

Some people say, “Ours is the true church. If you join our church you will go to Heaven.” But the Bible does not say that the wages of sin is to join a particular church. The Bible says that “the wages of sin is death.” If we pay what we owe for our sin, we must die and spend eternity in Hell.

Jesus paid the penalty for us.

“But God commendeth His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is as much God as if He had never been man, and as much man as if He had never been God. After living a sinless life, the Lord Jesus went to the cross, where He bled and died for our sin. After three days in the tomb, He rose from the grave, proving His power over death, sin, and Satan. The wages of sin is death. Jesus died for us; so He paid the wages of sin.

We must accept His payment for us.

“The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)

A gift is always free. If I pay even a fraction of its value, it is no longer a gift. Eternal Life is life forever in Heaven. This gift is available only through the Lord Jesus Christ.

According to Romans 6:23, we have two choices. We can pay for our sins ourselves by dying and going to Hell, or we can accept God’s gift of eternal life and go to Heaven when we die. In other words, we either receive Jesus Christ as our Savior, taking the gift of eternal life, or, by doing anything else; we reject Jesus Christ as our Savior, refusing His gift of eternal life.

Romans 10:13 tells us how we can except God’s wonderful gift of eternal life. “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord, shall be saved.”  To be saved, we would have to be saved from something. If I were drowning, and you threw me a rope; I would say that you had saved me from drowning. When we pray and ask the Lord Jesus to save us, He saves us from our sin and from the penalty of death in Hell.
Will you trust the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior? Will you rely on Him and Him alone to forgive your sin and give you everlasting life in Heaven? If you will, say the following prayer to the Lord (remember, to do anything other than receiving Christ is to reject Him).

You can sincerely call on Jesus now to save you:

“Lord, I admit that I am a sinner. I don’t deserve to go to Heaven. But I believe that you sent your Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for my sin. I trust Him, and Him alone to forgive my sin, to become my Savior, and to take me to Heaven when I die. Thank you for saving me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

In John 6:37 Jesus says “…Him that cometh unto me I will in no wise cast out.”  If you sincerely accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior, He promises to let you into Heaven when you die. He promises that He will not under any circumstances (“in no wise”) cast you out. That’s the best news in the world!
