REMEMBER THE BONDAGE

Believers in Christ should beware of looking back on our past lives before salvation with fondness or with longing. This can be a great temptation in times of trial.

And the whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness:
And the children of Israel said unto them, Would to God we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots, and when we did eat bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger. - Exodus 16:2–3

Just like the Israelites of old, we can forget the bondage we were in before we were saved.  But more than them, we so easily forget the guilt and condemnation we felt for our sins. To varying degrees, we also had fear and the hopelessness we felt because of our uncertain future. We may be tempted to complain about our current difficulties, but the difference between then and now is that we have the Lord. He is taking us somewhere, and He is using our trials to strengthen our faith.
