WHEN TO STOP LISTENING
Being open-minded can be a good thing when it refers to being humble and having a teachable spirit. But we must be discerning and on guard against temptation and deception.
Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.
- Proverbs 19:27
The only source of absolute truth is the Word of God. We should have a completely open mind to all that it says. It should be embraced and held in our minds and hearts. If we find ourselves in a setting where something contrary to its teachings is being taught, it is best to walk away, lest we become confused or deceived. This is especially true if you are not well grounded in God’s Word. It is good to learn about other beliefs and practices, but only if you are grounded and growing in the truth of the Bible. We stop listening, not out of fear, but because of our devotion to the Lord and His Word.
