WHY WE MUST FORGIVE

Receiving forgiveness from God is one of life‘s greatest blessings. But granting forgiveness to others is one of life‘s most difficult challenges. Yet we must do it.

And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.
- Mark 11:25-26

When we trust in Christ for salvation, God forgives all of our sins. He forgives past, present, and future sins at once, and our relationship is secure. But when we refuse to forgive those who sin against us, our fellowship with God is broken, and we can have no confidence in prayer.  We must forgive even if the other person does not apologize. But forgiveness is not reconciliation. It is releasing the other person from a debt of sin and refusing to retaliate. And this is notably difficult. But we need to forgive others, not only for their sakes, but for our sakes as well.
