KEEPING AND BEING KEPT

God’s Word should always be close at hand and close to our hearts. It will bless us in many ways.

My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.
Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.
That they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger which flattereth with her words. - Proverbs 7:1, 5

We are responsible to keep the Word of God, that is to guard it, even as our eyelids naturally protect the apple (pupils) of our eyes. Read it, study it, memorize it, and spend time in it every day. When we have that kind of commitment to God’s Word, it will also keep (guard) us. It will not only keep us from sexual sin, but from all types of sin, and it will enable us to overcome temptation. This does not mean that we can attain a sinless life, but it does mean we will live a sin-conquering life. Let us intentionally keep God’s Word; it will surely keep us.
