THE SECOND MILE

Many live their lives seeking to do their duties in the bare minimum. That should never be true of us.

And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.
- Matthew 5:41

In Bible times Roman soldiers could stop any man on the street by law and make that man carry his knapsack for a mile. The Jewish people hated this law and they hated that they were under Roman rule.  But our Lord said that if someone compels us to go a mile that we should go two miles! He was indicating that we should go through life doing more than is required of us, and that we should do so with a good attitude. We should diligently carry out our responsibilities, and then some. And remember that we are not doing it for our boss, our family, or even for survival. We can smile on the second mile, because we are doing it for our Lord.
