THE WRONG KIND OF LOVE
Love is considered to be the greatest of the graces, but even then there is an aspect of love that is not good at all.
This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy.
- 2 Timothy 3:2
God commands us to love our neighbors as we love ourselves, and this has led some to teach that we must first learn to love ourselves well. That is not at all what the Scripture teaches. God knows that we already love ourselves too much, and that we need to direct our love outward to others. Self-love is selfish, proud, and it excludes others. It is also a sign that we are living in the last days. We must intentionally go against our culture by loving God supremely, and loving others, not just as we love ourselves, but even as Christ loved us.
