THE WISDOM OF SILENCE
Sometimes wisdom is demonstrated in saying the right thing at the right time. And sometimes it is displayed in not saying anything at all.
Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.
- Proverbs 17:28
There are many times when we need to be bold and speak up. But wisdom is displayed by silence when we are being provoked to speak in anger or retaliation. Silence is certainly better when we are tempted to deceive others, to boast, or when we just do not know what to say. We do well not to express everything we are thinking. But let us always be prayerful and cautious before opening our mouths to speak when we are uncertain. In so doing, we will be wise in the sight of the Lord, regardless of what others may think.
