BE FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT
Believers cannot live the Christian life apart from the presence of the Holy Spirit who lives within us.
And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.
- Ephesians 5:18-19
The command to be filled with the Spirit does not indicate that we can receive more of Him. We have all of the Holy Spirit that we will ever need. The word “filled” refers to control, rather than to the measure of how much of the Holy Spirit we possess. What matters most is how much the Holy Spirit has possession of us. To be filled with the Holy Spirit is likened to being filled with God‘s Word, for the results are the same. And those results are to be filled with joy, praise, and a heart that is submitted to God. To be filled is God’s command, and may it also be our prayer.
