OUR “LIGHT” AFFLICTION
Suffering is part of living in a fallen and sinful world. And we know that the Lord always has a purpose in the suffering of believers.
For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.
- 2 Corinthians 4:17
And yet our affliction is both light and temporary. It is light in comparison to what some others are going through, and it is light in comparison to what we deserve. It is also momentary when compared to eternity. The most encouraging thing about our affliction is that it is always working for us, even when it seems it is working to destroy us. Our Lord has willed it to be so, and we must trust Him to bring it to pass in His time and in His way. Our pain will result in gain as we respond properly to it.
