SEEK NO GLORY FOR SELF

There is nothing wrong with receiving credit for a good deed or a job well done. But we must avoid doing anything for the purpose of bringing glory to ourselves.

Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ.
- 1 Thessalonians 2:6

We must remember that everything that we have we have first received from God and others that He has put into our lives. Our brains, our abilities, our opportunities, and all of our strength are gifts. No doubt we should always seek to do our best, but for the glory of God. When seeking personal glory is our goal, it breeds selfishness, comparison, and an unhealthy spirit of competition. Let us strive for the best possible outcome in every endeavor. But we must constantly check our motives, for only God is worthy of all the glory.
