SEEKING PROMOTION
Because we were created to have dominion, there is ambition to achieve great things in every human heart to varying degrees. But we must keep it in check.
Lift not up your horn on high: speak not with a stiff neck.
For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.
- Psalm 75:5-7
We must beware of selfish ambition and desire to be lifted up so that we can look down on others. We should approach every task with excellence, always giving our best. At the same time, we must keep a servant’s heart towards others. Then we must leave promotion in the hands of God. If we exalt ourselves in pride, then the Lord will bring us down. But if we humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God, He will exalt us in due time. And that might not be until we get to heaven. But in many ways, that is better.
